Ive just finished reading Guide dogs from puppies to partners by Diana Lawrenson.  I would rate it as Very Good.  This is because there was lots of information.  I like the photos because I like photos of the dogs.  The thing I liked best about the book was the photographs. I didnt like it because it didnt have a contents page.  If I could have changed something in the story it would have been and index and a bigger text.

Ive just finished reading Guide Dogs from puppies to partners by Diana Lawrenson.  I would rate it Good.  This is because there was too much writing and there isnt an index in the back.  The thing I liked best about the book was there were things in it that I didnt know that I learned.  If I could have changed something in the story it would have been easier reading with less text but it was good for a 4/5 class.  The information was hard to find.

Ive just finished reading Guide dogs from puppies to partners by Diana Lawrenson.  Using the scale on this sheet I would rate it Very Good.  This is because it gives you good research and education.  The thing I liked best about the story was the photographs.  If I could have changed something in the story it would have been easier reading.  But it is good for 4/5 class.  I think this book was very educational.

This book is full of information about guide dogs and how they play an important role in the society - they give assistance to the blind and make it safer for the blind people. After the war many people returned half blind and some were completely blind. When it came time for the completely blind people to get a guide dog there werent enough. This is because it is a very expensive process to train the dogs. Guide dogs are mostly labradors and retrievers though boarder collies can also be used. Some breeds dont have the ability to be a guide dog.

Guide dogs are only trained when they are young this is because when a dog is young it will pick up certain habits that will stay with them all of their life. Therefore if a guide dog is taught the appropriate habits it will be ok. There are many distractions faced by guide dogs because people whistle at them try to feed them, talk to them or pat them etc and they have to be trained to ignore distractions.
