Do you ever wonder about the strange eyes you see in the dark? I always have, but my problems were solved when I read Eyes In The Dark a fantastic picture book that is very informative. With great fold out pages Eyes In The Dark consists of puzzling poems that are eventually revealed. It also lets us know about some very rare Australian species. I bet that most of you havent heard of a Kowari or Spotted Cuscus!

If you are a great animal lover and perhaps want to know a bit more about these rare animals then I suggest you read this book. Kim Dale sure has produced a very interesting masterpiece. For slightly younger readers Lothian Books presents a beautiful storybook about nocturnal animals that can be enjoyed by all. Why not see for yourself.

This information book is about Australian animals, where they live and what they do. It is like a guessing game. From the clues and the shape of the eyes you have to guess the animal. The illustrations of the book are very real and very nice. The colourful pictures tell you lots of information about the animals.

We thought it was a very good book.

Eyes In The Dark is a fold out book - on one side of the page it has the animals eyes and on the other there is the animal and its habitats. On the left side of the book there is a poem and you can try and guess what animal it is.

The animals are Owls, Cuscus, Possum, Bilby, Tawny Frog mouth, Wallaby, Kangaroo, Koala, Wombat, Kowari, Flying Fox, Quoll, Numbat, Snake, Thorny Devil and a Tree Frog. In the back of the book there is a lot of information on each animal individually.

Eyes In The Dark has won a book award. Although this book sounds like a little kids book you will find the photographs very interesting and you will end up reading the book over and over again like me.

Here is one poem:

Noisy thumping on the roof

As day gives way to night

With chattering and growling,

Can mean an angry fight.

But mostly we are soft and shy

And stay in bushy places,

Hiding from the glaring sun.

You seldom see our faces.

Into the branches overhead

At night we disappear.

A munch of leaves, a hissing call

Is all that you will hear.

Can you guess the animal?

Common bushtail possum

Eyes In The Dark is a book about all sorts of poems.  Its a good book for projects; it has a lot of good quality information.

The first poem is about an Eastern Grey Kangaroo, Common Wombat and a Koala.

The second poem is about a Spotted Cuscus.

The third animal is a Kowari.

The fourth animal is about Grey-headed Flying Fox.

The fifth animal is about an Eastern Quoll.

I think it has very colourful and well-presented illustrations.  I think Kim Dale has well described Eyes in the Dark. It is a book aged for 5 year olds and up.

Altogether there are 13 animals Kim Dale is talking about. I like how Kim Dale has presented the drawings and writing on glossy paper and how its a fold out book. Its good how its different to other books she has written. Her first book she had written was called What Am I?

If you want to find out more information on Eyes In The Dark, or Kim Dale go to www.bookedout.com.au/illustrators/Kim_Dale/print.html I thought the book was a great read.
