For two generations a rare colony of frogs have been hiding in a subterranean cavern. Now they have decided it is time to explore the upper creek world to see whether it is safe to return to the rainforest.

In a previous expedition Siluss dad Gastro went to upper creek world but only a few frogs returned. Unfortunately  Gastro wasnt one of them.  Now its Silus turn.  When he heads upwards with Rhea and Batrach, will Silus discover the fate of his father?

I quite enjoyed this book but I would have liked more.  Out of ten, Id give it eight and a half.  Id recommend it for children in the age group 8 12.

Bubbles surged over Siluss back as he sliced through the dark water towards Deep Cleft.

You will find a lot of water here in this underground cavern in an Australian rainforest.  Silus and Batrach are always competing, especially when swimming.   Rhea, Silus and Batrach are assigned a journey to discover if the colony could survive a return to the Upper world of the rainforest.  Can they be successful?

Jill Morris cleverly describes the scientific world of the rare Southern Platypus frog. Although I have little interest in frogs, I think this would be a good book to be enjoyed by all Middle School students who do.
