| This book is about a little goblin named Gibblewort, who comes from Ireland to Australia because it rains a lot in Ireland and he hates rain. He gets into lots of mischief like wrecking a bull-ants mound. He meets lots of animals in the bush like emus and kangaroos. Then he decides he doesnt like Australia because the animals are so much larger than he expected and he gets scared, so he moves back to Ireland. It was a good book, which I enjoyed because it had lots of humour, but I wouldnt go to extremes like hiding under the covers with a torch so I could finish it. I think this books topic is suitable for its age group (which is 5-9) because there arent any really scary bits. The ending is quite funny because he kissed a girl and the girl thought that he stank peeooo! Gibblewort is a cartoon character in a real place with real animals. I also got a feel for the background of the story as it is set in Australia. I liked Gibblewort and his name, as it suits his personality and that makes him more realistic. The purpose of the story wasnt exactly to tell a moral, it was more just to entertain people, and maybe let them have fun when reading this weird book. I think the language is also appropriate for the ages 5-9, and the print is really easy to read because its big and bold. Id like to receive this book as a gift, because it is interesting, and Im glad I that I read it. By Georgia (8) ACT | |
| Gibblewort is an Irish goblin. He is very mean and nasty. He hates a lot of things but most of all he hates rain and in Ireland it rains nearly everyday!! So he decided to go to Australia, a nice dry place. So Gibblewort packed himself in a postbag and put some stamps on. The address on the bag said: Australia A nice dry part The other goblins thought he was ugly & horrible so they were happy to send him off to Australia so off he went. He arrived in Australia one week later still in his postbag. He was bumping along a dusty road on a posties truck. He kicked really hard so he fell off the back of the truck. He crawled out of the postbag & looked around. It looked great!! But unfortunately for him (not for anyone else) he came along a lot of things he wasnt expecting like bull ants, a laughing bird, the largest bird in the world & much more!! This is a great book for 5-10 year olds. Its funny & really original! I love the illustrations even though they arent in colour. This is another great book from Victor Kelleher!! It deserves a big 10/10!!! |
