"It was seven days since Kev had left Sydney with his family. Seven long miserable days. He didn't want to be a Christian.  He wanted to be back at Rosella State School with his old friends, his old life and his old clothes.

Kevin's dad is in the Army and his family gets transferred to Melbourne, but his mum insists that he go to a Catholic school. It's tough enough starting a new school but one that is so very different from what you are used to is really hard.  On top of that Kev's dad leaves and his mum starts wearing weird clothes and calling him River!

This book is okay but it is like the author had too many ideas in his head and he didn't know which one to really write about. It was really confusing in places and just when you thought that you were getting to the main storyline, something else cropped up. It was like a river splitting into a whole lot of different streams and not joining up again very well.

But there were some funny parts and kids my age could relate to some of Kev's adventures. I'm glad my mum doesn't make me wear tartan pants, eat tofu and call me River.
