| Mum and Dad looked at each other over the breakfast dishes. Luke knew that look. It meant No. Dogs are so messy, Mum said. They dig up the garden, said Dad. But said Luke. Theythey widdle everywhere when theyre puppies, Mum said. They bark all the time, said Dad. But said Luke. You have to feed them and bathe them and take them for walks and pick up their their droppings! they said. What would you really like for your birthday? Mum asked. Id really like a dog, Luke said. But he knew he wasnt going to get one. (The Wonder Dog Pages 4,5and6) The Wonder Dog written by Pamela Freeman and illustrated by David Stanley is about a boy named Luke who is really keen on getting a dog but his parents arent to keen about it. However, in the end they get him a doga wonder dog? An electronic dog that can walk, run, sit, fetch, bark and play ball with anyone, and doesnt leave any mess. But is having a Wonder Dog just as great as a living, breathing dog? I think that The Wonder Dog is best suited for children 7-10. It is quite easy to read and is ideal for a first mini novel. Id give this book a 3/5 because I think that the story isnt that engaging and the pictures in the book are not really necessary. |
