Jill Dobson UQP: Young Adult Fiction 477p pbk $17.95 ISBN: 0-7022-3227-0 | I am a devout follower of fantasy and sci-fi, but I have to say, A Journey to Distant Mountains is one of the best fantasy novels I have read for a long time. The book is a rich blend of different cultures, castes and themes and has an excellent story line. The book is great for 13-15yr olds but is suitable for anyone from 12 upwards. It is sometimes a difficult book to understand, but only for younger readers, I would think. The fact that this is only the first book in a trilogy means that the book doesnt finish at the end of this tome, and that anyone who reads this one will be itching to get their hands on its sequel, yet to come out. The story itself is a great script, with fantastic characters and detail enough to make any unhappy young lady resist even thinking about running away again! The only fault I found with the novel is its slowness to get to action, but as they say, good things come to those who wait I hesitate to call it a true fault. Overall an excellent novel and highly recommended. Stefan, aged 13, Canberra, ACT |
